Christmas Spirit : Oliver Jackson
Every Christmas we hear of great acts of kindness and selflessness that leave us all a little bit taken back and this year is no different, but this one is very close to home.
This young man is Oliver Jackson, a 7 year old who attends Brooke Primary School, Thorne.
Oliver may seem like an ordinary young man that loves his sports but this year, he has proved to be so much more. As well as being in various local sports clubs, playing Rugby for his local Thornensians, he does Taekwondo, Swimming, as well as being in the local Choir and learning to play the Ukulele, he wanted to do a little more. So you would think, this young man surely doesn't have time for much more? Well you would be surprised.
It isn't just these activities Oliver gets a kick from, its helping others. When Oliver and his mum, Lisa are out and about, Oliver will often buy something from the shop for a homeless person nearby. Which is a lovely thing to do in itself, but it doesn't stop there.
Last year Oliver wanted to buy all the girls and boys in hospital a gift and deliver them on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately that couldn't happen. Unable to do that Oliver made a big effort last year, by donating Toys and dropped them off at McDonalds Thorne, One of our drop off points for our annual Toy Appeal.

It was November this year when Oliver's mum Lisa reached out to us at Thorne Rural Lions for this years collection. When we say he has amazed us, that is putting it lightly. Oliver had made such an effort this year there was too many to drop off alone. We had to send one of our Lion Members to collect them.
Throughout the year, Oliver has used his Birthday and Christmas money, as well as anything else he could raise this year, to put towards his goal of getting as many gifts for the Toy appeal as possible. He didn't just donate the money, he went out and purchased toys throughout the year. With the only goal being to put as many smiles on faces as he could and as you will see by the pictures on this page, he will have certainly done that.
Oliver has made an outstanding effort this year and his contribution as well as all the other donations to our appeal will make a lot of children's Christmas so much brighter. This year Oliver has certainly achieved his goal, bringing a lot of smiles to so many faces. The year long effort is absolutely outstanding and Oliver has achieved so much.
Oliver Jackson, you have made everyone proud of not only this achievement this year but of the person you are. Well done to Lisa and family for raising this young star. As a Club we couldn't be more proud and honoured to work alongside people like Oliver.
