ABOUT US
Lions International
Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion. Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Our 1.4 million members perform valuable service in 210 countries and geographic areas around the globe. Lions are friends, family and neighbours who share a core belief: community is what we make it.
We believe that the world gets better and problems get smaller when people unite to serve their local and global community. Lions help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy. Since 1917, Lions have strengthened communities through humanitarian projects and hands-on service. We serve neighbours who live next door and people on the other side of the world that we may never meet.
Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters.

Beginning in 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities. View LQ (Lions Quarterly Video Magazine) on the Lions News Network to see how Lions continue to make a difference everyday and everywhere.
We meet the needs of our local communities and the world. Our men and women conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youth, provide help in time of disaster and much more. Join us in making our communities and the world better places to live.

If you have a specific funding request please fill in the form on the Funding Requests Page.
We also work with surrounding rural Lions organisations on occasion to provide support or even when asking for support from those clubs for projects or events, we are proud to stand alongside members from all areas and walks of life. To keep Thorne Rural Lions fluid and relevant to todays ever changing society we also believe our leadership should be, this is why every year in Thorne Rural Lions we change our President and Vice President, Every year we vote for who becomes the Vice President the following year, once that Vice President has carried out their year they then automatically fill the position of President for the following year with a new Vice President, we believe by doing this there is a fair rotation of leadership.
Our Secretary and Treasurer often stays the same as these are more familiar and experienced roles. Once a year we have our Annual Charter night, our black tie event reflects on the previous years achievements, what accolades our members have reached and what our focusses are for the following year. This event is by invitation and has members from local clubs, district members and leaders. This event is all funded through attendees payments (no other funding is used), we often show presentations like the video link below.
